Richmond

June 20th - June 25th

Wednesday, June 20th, Richmond, VA

Drove down to Richmond - 8 hours in the car by myself. It wasn't too bad, but I can say that I'm really glad James will be able to share the driving with me.

I was visiting Juhi, a friend that started at HotJobs about 6 months ago. She moved to New York from Richmond. It was nice to experience Richmond through her as she still has a lot of friends there and knew all the best places to go.

I stayed with her and her new friend, Jon. He had a great little place - an old building with a cute back yard. He had decorated his apartment in a 50s style fashion, an original eclectic feel. The more I saw of Richmond, the more I realized that there was definitely a fashion for old stuff. Everyone was stylish but everyone had taken his or her style from older generations. For example on Thursday, we went thrifting with one of Juhi's good friends. Sarah had class, funky clothing and an aged but charismatic apartment.

We went out for dinner and/or drinks every night. I met tons of great people, ate great food and went to some cool bars. Chris and Marie were among my favorite of their friends. Chris and Jon have been best friends for 20 years. His girlfriend was an outgoing, energetic lady who did faux finishing for a living. Thursday, we went out to dinner with them for Jon's b-day. Afterwards we went to a bar that was showing Chris' art. After that we went back to Chris & Marie's place and saw more of his art. Great art and good people.

On Friday, I drove down to Williamsburg. It was very interesting and I'm glad I did it but I not sure it was worth the $32 entrance fee. That night Jon had a party at his house. Saturday night, Juhi and I visited another friend at Zeus, went to a party and back to Hill Café to meet up with Jon, Chris and Marie. Sunday, I had coffee with Marie at Hill Café. Juhi and Jon met me there for brunch. Juhi visited Sarah while Jon and I went to an auction at the Farmer's Market. Finally after a wonderful week, Juhi and I made the long trek back to NYC.
